Joan recently joined the LPM as a part of Harvard Catalyst's Summer Clinical and Translational Research Program.
Hello! My name is Joan R. Fadayiro. I am from Chicago, IL. Currently, I attend North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC. I am a junior biology major. Last year, I began conducting research in an organic chemistry laboratory. I synthesize organic compounds that are similar in structure to resveratrol, a known chemopreventive. These compounds will be tested for chemopreventive properties in brain cancer cells. I have developed a great interest in this research project. I also have research interests in neurology, oncology, radiology, and the health disparities. My interests outside of biomedical science include having new experiences and meeting new people. I also enjoy traveling, being in the company of positive people, and serving others.
I am looking forward to participating in the Summer Clinical and Translational Research Program (SCTRP) because I hope to explore new scientific questions, learn new lab techniques and information about furthering my career, and building lasting relationships with the other participants and the mentors. My future goals include attaining my undergraduate degree and completing an MD/PhD program. My ultimate goal is to become a physician and the principal investigator of a laboratory. Also, I would like to serve as a mentor to students pursuing careers in medicine and biomedical research.
